Summer Season 2019 Announced

With a new season including music in the foyer, street food vendors selling a variety of delicious treats and a programme that’s packed full of the best in music, comedy, theatre and cinema you’ll need to look no further than Artrix for the hottest tickets this summer.


Maintaining a growing reputation as Worcestershire’s go-to venue for great live music, Artrix presents a summer of music fit for a festival. BBC Folk Award-winning Aidan O’Rourke & Kit Downes visit Artrix on Thursday 16 May and there’s energetic world-folk music from Moishe's Bagel on Saturday 22 June.

Outstanding Ukrainian jazz-folk-electronic set up Dagadana will be dropping in to Artrix on Thursday 27 June, prior to their gig at Glastonbury that weekend and British Blues innovator and slide guitarist Michael Messer joins with Hindustani slide guitar maestro from India, Manish Pingle, and London-based tabla master, Gurdain Singh Rayatt to bring Mitra to The Studio on Friday 19 July. 

As always, Artrix presents another season of the very best in tribute acts including The Songs Of Leonard Cohen on Friday 31 May, the ultimate 60s party with Summer Of Love on Saturday 8 June and the return of Beach Boy’s tribute Surf’s Up on Saturday 20 July. 


Comedy highlights this Summer include Radio Active on Thursday 9 May, as Angus Deayton, Philip Pope, Michael Fenton Stevens and Helen Atkinson Wood reunite to bring classic scripts from the award-winning BBC Radio 4 to the stage. Award-winning comedian and impressionist Jess Robinson returns to Artrix with more spot-on celebrity impressions, musical comedy and stunning vocal gymnastics on Friday 17 May. 


Theatre highlights include musician, performer and writer Matt McGuinness with his debut show We Are What We Overcome on Saturday 4 May, featuring uplifting, anthemic tunes shedding light on mental health with self-deprecating honesty and dark humour. 


Other big names gracing the Artrix stage this summer include 80s Pop and Musical Theatre sensation Jason Donovan with a sell-out show on Wednesday 8 May and Lexicographer, Best Selling Author and Queen of Dictionary Corner Suzie Dent with The Secret Lives of Words on Tuesday 9 July.


Family audiences will be charmed by the grumpy ginger cat Sourpuss on stage on Wednesday 29 May, along with a hands-on puppet making workshop. This June, Vienna Festival Ballet returns to Artrix with their stunning production of Giselle. With the performance beginning at 5pm on Sunday 2 June, this is a wonderful first ballet experience for all the family.


With a new 4K Sony Digital Cinema Projector, Artrix Cinema has a season of the latest Box Office hits. There’s something for all to enjoy with the beginning of Saturday morning Family Matinee Films including Tim Burton’s latest Disney adaptation of Dumbo on Saturday 4 May and monthly Sunday Afternoon Chill Out Films.

On Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June, fans of Baz Luhrmann’s cinematic spectaculars can enjoy a Baz Luhrmann Mini-Season with screenings of Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge and of course there will also be presentations of the very best in live theatre and dance performances, including National Theatre Live: All My Sons on Tuesday 14 May and RSC Live: Measure For Measure on Wednesday 31 July.


Artrix continues to present a wide range of exhibitions and workshops for all to enjoy, including Tai Chi For Beginners and Improvers throughout May, June and July. 


As always, Artrix’s Cafe and Bar are open for refreshments and snacks and this season there will also be monthly weekend visits from local eatery Ascotts with their delicious street food, including Halloumi Fries and Slow Cooked Beef.
