Late Night

Late Night 15

with Emma Thompson, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, Amy Ryan, Megalyn Echikunwoke, John Lithgow. 102 mins + trailers

Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling head up a terrific new comedy, also scripted by Kaling, set in the cutthroat world of late night US talk shows. In a landscape mainly dominated by men both on and off-screen, host Katharine Newbury (Thompson) is losing ratings. But her world and her show’s prospects are turned upside down when she hires her first and only female staff writer, Molly (Kaling). Originally intended to smooth over diversity concerns, Molly’s hire brings about unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women who are separated by culture and generation are gradually united by their love of a biting punchline.
