Agnieszka Holland’s valuable, powerful film tells the powerful story of Gareth Jones, the Welsh journalist who uncovered Stalin’s genocidal famine in Ukraine, which killed almost 10 million people. In 1933, Jones (James Norton) visits Moscow to try and interview Stalin himself. Hearing rumours of a government-induced famine, he travels in secret to Ukraine, where he experiences the incredible horror of man-made starvation first-hand. Holland’s remarkable film recalls a figure who could not be dissuaded from telling the truth.
