Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison, the grande dame of American literature who died in 2019, began writing because the books she wanted to read did not yet exist. Focusing solely on the African-American experience, her powerful and visceral prose explored African-American identity, history, imagination and mythology in virtuosic works including Song of Solomon and Beloved, her Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece. This intimate, artful meditation on her life and work features illuminating interviews with Morrison herself; as well as a wider range of contributors including Hilton Als, Angela Davis, Fran Lebowitz, Walter Mosley and Oprah Winfrey.
