Artrix Studio Collective Young Company Auditions

Artrix Studio Collective (ASC) is a unique opportunity for young actors aged 16 – 21 to develop performance skills whilst rehearsing a scripted play. ASC specialises in Young People making theatre which is showcased to a public audience in the Studio at the end of each term. Next term the Company will be rehearsing and Performing Lord of the Flies. See audition details below.
Led by associate artist, director Naomi Coleman, whose recent work includes: Oleanna and After the End, ASC aims to reveal a real insight into the creative process from rehearsal room to stage at What's On Award 2019 for Best Arts/Theatre Venue in Worcestershire.
CASTING BREAKDOWN FOR LORD OF THE FLIES
All the Characters will be played by young actors 16 – 21 who can play down.
The names and gender of the characters are non-specific for this ASC production but for the purposes of the audition we will use the names assigned to them by the author William Golding.
Jack: Proud, arrogant and power hungry. A Bully. Descends into savagery.
Ralph: Sensible, responsible, fair. Appointed leader by the group vote. Determined to hold onto civilised values.
Piggy: Kind, considerate and intelligent. An outsider. Bullied by the others.
Roger: Secretive, intense, dangerous. Forms a close alliance with Jack. Kills Piggy.
Simon: Helpful, thoughtful, observant. Communicates a sensitivity and connection to the island that could be described as spiritual. Killed by Jacks tribe.
Maurice: Childish, immature and a bit of a joker. The island and tribes are a bit of a game for Maurice.
Sam and Eric: Siblings. Have a close relationship. At times they finish each other’s sentences. They side with Ralph.
Perceval: The youngest of the characters. Brave and frightened at the same time.
Bill: Forms part of Jacks tribe. Enjoys the hunt.
To apply, you will need to sign up to audition for our forthcoming production - Lord of the Flies written by William Golding adapted for stage by Nigel Williams. Please email your interest with your contact details and character you would like to audition for to the attention of Naomi Coleman.
Auditions will take place on Monday 18th November 2019 from 7pm at the Artrix Studio - you will be contacted to confirm your audition time.
ASC Young Company Meeting on Monday 25th November 2019 for the successful applicants to meet the rest of the cast from 7-9.00pm at the Artrix Studio.
Rehearsals to commence from Monday 13th January – 23rd March 2020 in the Artrix Studio from 7.00-9.00pm (No session on 17th February 2020)
Performance will be Friday 27th March 2020 in The Studio.
Fees are £80 for the term. Payable to join once you have auditioned and been offered a part in the Play. (Artrix may be able to provide Financial support to assist students subject to criteria. Applications can be made once you have been offered a place in the ASC Young Company)
Bio for Naomi Coleman
Naomi Coleman is a freelance theatre director and acting teacher based in, Stourbridge. Originally trained as an actor at The School of Drama and Creative Industries QMUC, Edinburgh, Naomi returned to the Midlands working professionally with practitioners and companies including: The Alexandra Theatre, BBC, ITV, Barunka O'Shaughnessy, David Tuck, Birmingham Hippodrome. For the past 14 years Naomi has been nurturing and developing the understanding and skills of students of acting and theatre, she is founder of Pop Up (Theatre) and associate artist at Artrix Art Centre - directorial credits including: Oleanna, Night Mother, After the End
